Various Aruban government departments participated, as well as representatives of the Advisory Council of Sint-Maarten, the Environment & Service Nature management from Curacao, the Parke Nacional Aruba Foundation and the Serlimar.
In this Masterclass, various aspects of environmental law were discussed, which legislation is currently applicable, taking into account not only the Aruban legislation but also the legislation in force in the Netherlands and the BES islands. Finally, it was discussed which regulations regarding the management of the physical living environment are lacking and the desirability of establishing them.
The professors who gave this Masterclass were:
- Prof. Herman Bröring, Professor of Administrative Law at the University of Groningen;
- Prof. Dr. Michiel Heldeweg, Professor of Law, Governance and Technology at the University of Twente;
- Mr. Gisbert Boekhoudt, Director of the Departments Nature and Environment, which falls under the Ministry of Spatial Development, Infrastructure and Environment.
With this Masterclass, the Council hopes to have been able to contribute to increasing knowledge in the field of environmental law and to improve coordination between the various entities involved.
